What is "Discover with Distadzo?"

“Distadzo” is a Biblical Greek word that means “to waver, question, vacillate, or doubt.”

Sometimes it is hard to admit doubt or raise deep questions you are asking in your mind and heart regarding faith in God and life. There can be a fear of judgment or it is hard to admit anything that can be perceived as weakness of faith. Many times these questions, doubts, or subjects go unasked or undiscussed, ultimately eating away at the present faith within us. Or, perhaps you are unsure completely about faith in God and don’t know where to begin asking your questions.

The truth is, we all question, doubt, waver, or vacillate - from those inquiring about the faith, new to the faith, to life-long church goers. And it is better to address those doubts and discuss them lovingly than to bury or avoid them. I care about connecting with people and inviting them to safely share the questions and doubts that are on their hearts. I would like to establish a means by which people can share these questions, doubts, and subject matters with me, not simply for personal conversation or pastoral care, but to allow these subjects to potentially shape Bible Studies and Sermon Series over the course of the year.

This is “Discover with Distadzo.” It is less of a “what” and more of an open door and process for you to submit your questions, doubts, or topics that you would like discussed and/or addressed at First Lutheran Church/Circle of Love Preschool. All these pressing questions on your heart merit engaging Scripture to address them and speaking Christ into them for the purpose of strengthening faith. Often doubt is a great teacher and even amidst doubt or questions, Jesus is there with you to meet you right in the midst of it. My prayer is that with engaging your doubt and questions, you will discover, rediscover, or more deeply discover Jesus’ immense love, mercy, and grace. As St. Paul puts it: “Then Christ will make His home in your hearts as you trust in Him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is.” - Ephesians 3:17-18 NLT

We hope that this is one way that we live out connecting hearts, discovering purpose in Christ.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find [discover]; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds [discovers], and to the one who knocks it will be opened.’”  - Matthew 7:7-8 ESV
